This East Ward family loved where they lived. Great neighbourhood, familiar streets, and a home with lots of memories. The challenge was that the house was no longer keeping up with day-to-day life. The space felt cramped, the finishes felt stuck in the past, and the main floor flow made everything feel a little harder than it needed to be. Instead of moving, they chose to stay put and make the home work better for the life they are living now. This full home renovation was designed in collaboration with LEO Design Interiors, with a clear goal in mind: create a home that feels more modern, easier to live in, and welcoming from the moment you walk in.
Challenges
This home needed better day-to-day usability and a more cohesive feel. Key spaces did not support easy movement or shared routines, which made cooking, gathering, and hosting feel less comfortable than the family wanted. The renovation also needed to improve how the main floor “held together” as one connected living space, so the home felt inviting and functional in every season. On top of that, several areas needed modern updates to better support everyday life.
The Homeowners’ Vision
With two young kids and two busy working parents, these homeowners wanted a home that makes everyday life feel easier. Their vision was a brighter, better-connected space where mornings run smoother, meals and homework have a natural place to happen, and family time feels simple and comfortable. They also wanted a layout that supports casual entertaining without effort, while still feeling warm, calm, and truly “them,” now and as the kids grow.

This was a full home renovation with a major focus on the kitchen and main floor, supported by design decisions that helped the entire home feel intentional and pulled together. The layout was reworked to improve circulation and sightlines so the kitchen could function as a true hub. The flow between the kitchen, dining, and living areas was improved to make daily routines and hosting feel more natural. Finishes and materials were updated with durability and a timeless look in mind, and the indoor and outdoor relationship was strengthened so the backyard could be enjoyed more easily as part of the home.
