The Beechwood Renovation Blueprint: From Cramped to Custom
When Your Home No Longer Matches Your Life
After many years in their Beechwood home, our Project Mohawk clients realized their house no longer matched their lifestyle. The kitchen wasn't able to accommodate the growing need for space to store and hide appliances or other oversized grocery items; the living room felt dated, and the stairwell divided spaces rather than connecting them. Like many 1990s homes in the area, it had solid bones, but the layout and finishes didn't reflect how the family lived today.
Common Layout Issues in These 1990s Homes
Older homes from this specific time often share similar challenges, such as:
- Kitchens that feel too small to handle today's grocery runs and storage needs.
- A disruption of flow from the indoors to the outdoors, which discourages gatherings.
- A lack of natural light in these large rooms.
- A design style that remains rooted in the past, with many original elements in need of a refresh.
Our Project Mohawk was a perfect example of this. Our wonderful clients wanted to stay in the neighbourhood and community they loved but faced many of the challenges mentioned above. This is where we came in. We understood their pain points and helped create a space that reflected their current lifestyle.
Smart Renovation Ideas to Improve Flow
A Staircase Transformed into a Feature
What was once a dividing wall is now an architectural focal point. By redesigning the stairwell, this allowed the space to feel more open and connected with the rest of the home, turning a functional necessity into a statement feature.

A Living Room Designed for Light and Comfort
The living room was reimagined with expansive 9-foot windows that flood the space with natural light. The dated carpet was replaced with resilient wood flooring, and a more intentional layout brought balance and flow. Now, it feels like a place to relax, host, and gather with ease.

A Kitchen Expansion for the Ages
Does your kitchen feel cramped, hard to maintain, or too limited for how your family shops and gathers? That was the case for our Project Mohawk clients. Instead of building an addition, we reimagined the main floor layout. We removed the original walls to expand the kitchen and create a seamless flow into the dining room. No more bumping into each other, just a brighter, more spacious, and functional kitchen.
If your kitchen has these same challenges, explore our kitchen renovations to see how a smart design can completely transform the heart of your home.

Mudroom with Storage That Works
This laundry room once felt cramped with busy wallpaper, dated flooring, and little functionality, lacking smart storage solutions to hide shoes, coats, backpacks and other outdoor gear.
We reimagined this space as a modern mudroom, featuring custom cabinetry with abundant storage, a built-in bench, and sleek finishes that bring warmth from the moment you walk in.
We specifically chose large-format tiles on the floor to add some depth, replacing the small, worn ones previously there, while also enhancing the connected bathroom to be a brighter and more open room. What was once an afterthought is now an organized, welcoming transition space that supports the rhythm of this family's everyday life.

A Spa-Like Ensuite Retreat
The primary bedroom was upgraded with a luxurious ensuite, complete with a double vanity, walk-in shower, freestanding tub, and a dedicated makeup vanity. Expansive natural light pours into the space, elevating it into the ultimate private oasis.

A Basement Built for Comfort and Entertainment
The lower level was renovated to shed the cold, unfinished feel that basements often carry and instead bring in warmth and comfort. Thoughtfully designed, it now features a modern fireplace wall that anchors the living area, a glass-enclosed game room with a dual-desk workspace, and even a luxurious powder room. Every square foot was optimized to seamlessly balance family time, entertaining, and quiet focus.

Exterior & Outdoor Living Transformation
A Modern Exterior
The exterior was ready for a refresh, with dark blue shutters, orange brick, and white siding that had long since lost its charm. We updated the brick with a timeless neutral grey, added warm wood panelling, and introduced Maybec siding for contrast. The transformation not only boosts curb appeal but also reflects the same thoughtful design carried throughout the home.

Outdoor Kitchen and Pool House
With a love for outdoor entertaining, we designed a fully equipped cooking station with a built-in BBQ and pizza oven, making hosting a breeze. Stained wood, matching the home’s exterior and interior features, ties the space together, while a stylish cabana offers shade, ample storage, and a comfortable lounge area with integrated entertainment.

Saving With Smart Home Technology
Throughout this home, we integrated smart home automation to make energy conservation and comfortable living easier than ever. We installed energy-saving thermostats, smart light fixtures, and automated blinds and fans, giving our clients effortless control and a more comfortable everyday experience.
